Winter Wonderland
No question about it winter is here! The snow keeps coming and so does the wind and cold. This past week our class had a long discussion about what students should be wearing outside for recess. On Monday of this week I stood by my door and watched child after child try to run out the door with nothing more than an unzipped coat. Children will not be allowed outside unless they have a hat, coat, gloves, boots, and snow pants. Please make sure they are leaving home with these items each and every day! Thank you!
Valentine Party
On Wednesday February 14, our class will be holding our annual Valentines Day party. I have asked that each student make a valentine for each person in the room. We have 22 students in our room and I will send a class list home next week. As the day gets closer students are also going to want to bring in a box to decorate. These boxes will be used to collect valentines and will be decorated in class.
Keeping you up to date:
Reading-
Reading groups continued this week. We also had a great lesson on “Digging Deeper.” Students are beginning to understand that authors often have a purpose for writing stories. With each story there is a lesson to be learned.
Math-
Fractions continue to take up most of our math time together. Students are comparing fractions and learning to solve story problems that include fractions. Our goal with story problems is to come up with many ways to solve the problems.
Writing-
This week students began learning about the importance of “Word Choice.” As a class we took a piece of writing and graded it using the word choice rubric. Next week we will rewrite the piece and discover the improvement!
