MEAP Complete
On Wednesday of this week our class concluded the MEAP test for third grade. Students took the English language arts portion of the test last week and the math portion this week. Overall I feel as though the test was very fair. In the past the math portion of the MEAP has been full of reading and writing. this year it focused much more on mathematical operations. The English language arts test was mostly made up of cross text comparisons. Students needed to answer questions comparing two texts and also write about how they are alike. We will continue to practice MEAP like questions throughout the year in each of the content areas. This will better prepare each student to take next years test.
Keeping You Up To Date:
Reading-
Reading groups continued this week. Students were also introduced to the suffix “ing” and the rules that go along with its use. Look for suffix and prefix practice to become a regular part of reading groups each day.
Math-
Our math time in class has been filled with measurement. Students now have a solid understanding of inch, quarter inch, half inch and three quarters of an inch. Try some practice at home!
Writing-
This week students began a cross- curricular writing about the Midwest Region of the United States. Students needed to persuade citizens of the United States to come live in their region. We are continuing to grade each writing for writing “ideas.”
